
Susan (Sue) Liebenow is President and co-founder of L&T Health and Fitness. Sue has been involved in the health and fitness industry since 1975. She served on the faculty at Georgetown University in the Department of Athletics before co-founding L&T Health and Fitness in 1984.
At Georgetown, she coached her women’s tennis team to back-to-back appearances at the Division II National Championships – one of her fondest accomplishments. Sue has also served as adjunct faculty at The American University in Washington, DC. Sue has an undergraduate degree from the University of Mary Washington and a master’s degree in health/fitness management from The American University. She is a certified golf conditioning specialist and an avid golfer and tennis player.
In addition to leading L&T’s talented team of professionals since 1984, Sue has been honored with individual awards and recognition including the Dean W. Meyerson Award for integrity, compassion, leadership, enthusiasm, goodwill and contributions to health/fitness. She was the recipient of the Association for Worksite Health Promotion Lifetime Achievement Award and is a past member of the Mid Atlantic Club Management Association (MACMA) board of directors. In 2009, Sue received a Top 100 MBE award honoring minority and women entrepreneurs. In 2010, Sue was selected by SmartCEO Magazine as a Brava! Women’s Business Achievement Award recipient, presented to 25 women business owners in the Washington area.
Under Sue’s leadership, L&T programs have received top business and industry awards, including the Director’s Award for Outstanding Health/Fitness Programs given by the United States Office of Personnel Management to the top health/fitness programs in the Federal government (3), NOVA 7 Excellence Awards for wellness and health promotion, Mid-Atlantic Club Management Association fitness/wellness awards, and other industry recognition.
Sue is a frequent presenter at industry conferences and is actively involved in health promotion advocacy, working to advance health promotion at the worksite and in the national agenda. She is a member of the International Council on Active Aging strategy committee that helps develop strategy for the active aging industry, a member of the United States Workplace Wellness Alliance and a founding member of the Washington Area Wellness Coalition. Sue is a contributing author to the AWHP Field Manual, and is featured in Making the Games Happen: Profiles of Sport Management Professionals, both published in 2000.
